Jan Morrow (Doris Day), an interior designer in New York, picks up the phone to find her party line tied up again by Brad Allen (Rock Hudson), a songwriter crooning to one girlfriend after another. When her complaint goes nowhere, Brad meets her and decides to court her as a polite Texas rancher. Michael Gordon's film is about two people who have already formed an opinion of each other, from a voice on a shared wire.
