Pinky

(1949)Directed by Elia Kazan102 minDrama
“The poignant story of a girl who fell hopelessly in love!”

Pinky Johnson (Jeanne Crain) has finished nursing school in the North, where she lived as a white woman, and now she comes back to her grandmother's house in the South. Dicey (Ethel Waters) hears the truth about those years, while Pinky keeps it from the young white doctor, Dr. Thomas Adams (William Lundigan), who has fallen in love with her. Elia Kazan holds on Crain in the doorway of that small house, a daughter home again, and the fact of who she is.
