“Give yourself to desire!”

Newlyweds Suze (Andrea Riseborough) and Arthur (Harry Melling) watch a murder on a Manhattan street in the 1950s, and a greaser gang led by Teddy (Karl Glusman) fixes on them. Amanda Kramer stages it as a musical, with songs and tightly staged scenes in place of realism. Under the threat sits a plainer question: what the two of them want, and who each of them is.
