“Boldly go.”

Wendy Welcott (Dakota Fanning) is a young autistic woman who has spent years writing a 500-page Star Trek script, and she wants it read by a writing competition in Hollywood. When no one will take her, she slips away from her caregiver Scottie (Toni Collette) and sets out alone, with Mr. Spock as her guide. Ben Lewin follows her across the miles, and the film keeps asking whether Scottie and Wendy's sister Audrey (Alice Eve) can find her before the road does.
