Plenty

(1985)Directed by Fred Schepisi124 min · RDrama, Romance
“To know the pleasure of power. To feel the heat of passion. To stretch life to the absolute limit. She would settle for nothing less.”

Susan Traherne (Meryl Streep) served as a freedom fighter in occupied France, and she comes home to a Britain at peace. Fred Schepisi follows her through the postwar years in the company of Alice Park (Tracey Ullman), a friend who stays close, and Sir Andrew Charleson (Ian McKellen), a diplomat she crosses paths with. Nothing in her ordinary life measures up to what she did in the war, and she is slowly running out of ways to cope with that.
