Yang Mi-ja (Yoon Jeong-hee) is a woman in her sixties in a South Korean suburb who dresses carefully and has started losing words. She signs up for a poetry class, and Lee Chang-dong follows her through the weeks of looking at ordinary things and trying to write one line about them. Her grandson has committed a terrible wrong, and she keeps going to class, notebook in hand, as her memory slips.
