Walker (Lee Marvin) wants his money back, and nothing else. Double-crossed and left for dead, he goes after the men who took it, among them Mal Reese (John Vernon) and Yost (Keenan Wynn), even though the sum is small next to what it costs him to chase it. John Boorman adapts Donald E. Westlake's pulp novel The Hunter, and Marvin, who asked for him as director, helped shape the film.
