Inspector Mangin (Gérard Depardieu) leans hard on his informants in Paris to build a case against three Tunisian brothers who run drugs, and he arrests one of them, Simon, along with Simon's girlfriend Noria (Sophie Marceau). Noria gets out and takes two million francs that belong to the brothers. Maurice Pialat follows a cop who bloodies suspects and wears his feelings openly, as he falls for the woman he is supposed to be protecting.
