“Sometimes the further you stray, the closer you are to home.”

Jadzia (Lena Olin) runs the Pzoniak household and its five children, happily married to Bolek (Gabriel Byrne) while keeping up a long affair with Roman. Her youngest daughter Hala (Claire Danes) is seeing Russell, a cop who lives nearby, and then she becomes pregnant, which sets the family pressing him toward marriage.
