(1994)Directed by Isao Takahata119 min · PGAdventure, Animation, Fantasy
“A fantastic tale of survival.”

The tanuki of the Tama Hills are losing ground to bulldozers, new houses and shopping malls. Shoukichi (Makoto Nonomura) and the old ones, including the sharp-tongued Oroku (Nijiko Kiyokawa), decide to fight back by relearning the ancient art of transformation, until they can pass as humans. Isao Takahata gives the raccoons a stubborn kind of comedy, though what's underneath is a way of life that the people building around them never stop to notice.
