Portrait of Jennie

(1948)Directed by William Dieterle86 minDrama, Romance, Fantasy, Mystery
“The screen's most romantic team!”

Eben Adams (Joseph Cotten) is a painter in Depression-era New York who can't sell anything, until a cold winter evening in Central Park brings him a strangely dressed girl, Jennie Appleton (Jennifer Jones). She tells him to wait for her to grow up, and each time they meet again she seems to have changed. William Dieterle films the story with the soft, drifting look of a half-remembered dream, and he lets the screen itself turn to canvas.
