“"Posse" begins like most Westerns. It ends like none of them. It will knock you off your horse.”

Marshal Howard Nightingale (Kirk Douglas) is a lawman with his eye on a seat in the Senate, and he needs a famous arrest to get there. He puts together a posse of picked riders to hunt down Jack Strawhorn (Bruce Dern), a train robber with a gang at his back. Douglas, who also directed, shoots the chase in plain sun-bleached light, with a grain that makes the whole thing look worn.
