Mark (Sam Neill) comes home to Berlin from a job abroad and learns that his wife, Anna (Isabelle Adjani), wants a divorce and won't explain why. He tracks her through the city, sure there is another man, and what he finds in her behavior does not fit that story. Andrzej Żuławski makes a film about a marriage coming apart, where the damage between two people takes a physical form.
