Jimmy Haskell (James Stewart) has just lost his music shop and takes a job at his uncle's food factory. On the way he falls in with the McCorkles, an Irish family whose loud practicing band has made them the enemy of C.J. Haskell (Charles Winninger), including Molly (Paulette Goddard). George Marshall keeps the numbers coming, built on the band of Horace Heidt, who plays himself.
