Andrea Orsini (Tyrone Power) is an adventurer in the pay of Cesare Borgia (Orson Welles), and nearly as unscrupulous as his master. In 1500, Borgia sends him on a delicate errand to arrange a marriage between his sister and the heir to Ferrara, a match that stands in the way of his conquest of central Italy. On the road Orsini meets Camilla Verano (Wanda Hendrix), the wife of a count, and Henry King films the palaces and costumes in black and white.
