Thomas (Birger Malmsten) is among those drawn into his orbit, along with Birgitta Carolina Söderberg (Doris Svedlund), a young woman whose story the project begins to reach for. Bergman wrote the script himself, his first original screenplay as director, and he shoots it close and unrelenting.
