Max (Brian Cox) walks out of prison with terminal cancer and one place left to go: the home of his daughter Maxine (Kate Beckinsale), who he has not seen in years, and her son Ezra (Christopher Convery), a grandson he has never met. Catherine Hardwicke keeps the story in the cramped rooms of a household that is not ready for him. Maxine has her own fear to manage, and her ex-husband Tyler (Tyson Ritter) is turning up again.
