Private Fears in Public Places

(2006)Directed by Alain Resnais120 minDrama, Romance
“For six strangers in search of love, the City of Lights can be a very lonely place.”

Thierry (André Dussollier), an estate agent in Paris, thinks the video tapes his colleague Charlotte (Sabine Azéma) lends him carry messages meant for him alone. Around him, a patient bartender pours drinks for an ex-soldier, a fiancée hunts for a large flat, and a young woman waits in a café with a red flower pinned to her jacket. Resnais adapts Alan Ayckbourn's play and keeps his seven strangers in separate rooms, passing close and rarely touching.
