Private Life

Richard Grimes (Paul Giamatti) and Rachel Biegler (Kathryn Hahn), a middle-aged New York couple, have spent years trying to have a child and keep turning to the next option. Fertility clinics and adoption paperwork fill their days, and a young niece, Sadie (Kayli Carter), becomes part of the plan. Tamara Jenkins writes the marriage with dry humor and plain detail, and she keeps the camera close to two people running out of ways to talk about it.
