Promise at Dawn

Romain Gary (Pierre Niney) is a boy in Poland whose mother, Nina (Charlotte Gainsbourg), has decided he will become a famous French writer. She follows him to Nice and then to Paris, and he follows her ambition through his student years and into pilot training during the war. Barbier tells it as Gary's own memory of her, and the whole life is a promise he has to keep.
