Nobody in Washington can explain how a cocktail waitress named Sunny (Goldie Hawn) ends up taking a bullet meant for a visiting emir, but she does, and the papers make her a national heroine. The government finds her a job in the State Department, where Michael Ransome (Chris Sarandon) and a roomful of career diplomats treat her as a problem to manage. Herbert Ross keeps the pace brisk and the comedy broad, with Hawn at the center of nearly every scene.
