Punchline

“Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.”

Nobody in the Gold Mine comedy club can say why Lilah Krytsick (Sally Field), a housewife and mother with a family to get home to, keeps coming back to the open mic. Steven Gold (Tom Hanks), a stand-up on the cusp of success, takes her on, and David Seltzer follows the two of them through bad sets and late nights. They're friends first, then rivals for the same television spot, and neither one can quite let go of the other.
