“Bright lights. Hit songs. Country's biggest star. He'd trade it all to find the kind of love he'd only sung about.”

Dusty Chandler (George Strait) is a country superstar whose stage shows have the look of a '70s rock concert, with the volume and the spectacle to match. One day he walks out of all of it, looking for the country roots he feels he has lost and for a romance that is real. Christopher Cain follows him with help and trouble from the people around him, including Lula Rogers (Lesley Ann Warren), and the film closes on Dusty himself, still on the road.
