Eugene Proctor (Martin Short), an accountant who cannot cross a room without a ceiling tile or a flowerpot coming down on him, wants only to keep his job. Instead his employer, Highsmith (Sam Wanamaker), ships him to Mexico to find Valerie (Sheila Kelley), the businessman's missing daughter, who is just as unlucky. Nadia Tass sets him beside Raymond Campanella (Danny Glover), a hard-nosed investigator who has no patience for a partner like this.
