Purple Butterfly

“United by Passion. Divided by Fate.”

In Japanese-occupied Shanghai, Ding Hui (Zhang Ziyi) belongs to Purple Butterfly, a resistance group working against the occupiers. A chance meeting puts her face to face with Itami (Toru Nakamura), her former lover, now an officer in a secret police unit assigned to take the group apart. Lou Ye keeps the two of them circling a love that neither can claim without betraying the people around them.
