Purple Noon

“Passion at ten. Envy at eleven. Murder at noon.”

Tom Ripley (Alain Delon) wants what Philippe Greenleaf (Maurice Ronet) has: the money, the boat, the easy summer days, and the woman on his arm. Hired to bring the rich man home, Tom instead drifts into his orbit, copying his manner and borrowing his things. René Clément keeps Philippe, Marge (Marie Laforêt) and Tom aboard the same sun-bleached deck, where each wants a share of the others' attention.
