Pyaasa

Vijay (Guru Dutt) is a poet in Calcutta with nothing in his pocket and notebooks full of verse that publishers turn away, since he writes about hunger and poverty instead of love. Two women come into his life: Gulabo (Waheeda Rehman), a prostitute who admires his poems, and Meena (Mala Sinha), the girlfriend he once had. Guru Dutt directed and produced the film himself, and he plays the poet with a tired, wounded stillness.
