“He picked up a girl from the gutter - and changed her into a glamorous society butterfly!”

Why would a professor of phonetics wager that he can pass a Cockney flower girl off as a princess in six months? Henry Higgins (Leslie Howard) says he can, and Colonel George Pickering (Scott Sunderland) takes the bet. Eliza Doolittle (Wendy Hiller) moves into Higgins's house for her lessons, her dustman father Alfred (Wilfrid Lawson) having named his price, and the professor has no idea he is the one being changed.
