“SHE MADE HIM PROPOSE!.. and you'll die laughing at her methods..in this captivating comedy of romance on the run!”

Phoebe Throssel (Katharine Hepburn) is an unmarried woman in 1810s England who still hopes that Dr. Valentine Brown (Franchot Tone), her onetime beau, will notice her again. When he doesn't, she dresses up as her own made-up niece to show him what he has overlooked. George Stevens, working from J. M. Barrie's play, stages it in sunlit parlors, letting the comedy of one small deception carry the film.
