“Who cares about a 35 year old virgin?”

Nobody in this small Connecticut town can quite say what is wrong with Rachel Cameron (Joanne Woodward), a 35-year-old schoolteacher who lives with her mother and has no man in her life. Then Nick Kazlik (James Olson), back from the big city, asks her out, and Paul Newman, directing his wife in his first film behind the camera, follows her as she starts weighing what she wants. What opens between them is small and uncertain, and she has to decide what to do with it.
