Philip Monrell (Robert Montgomery) is a wealthy, charming man with a history of mental illness, and he marries Stella Bergen (Ingrid Bergman) the way he does everything, all at once. When his friend Ward Andrews (George Sanders) comes into their lives, Philip begins to suspect the two of them. W.S. Van Dyke follows a jealousy that has no evidence behind it and needs none.
