Ragtime

(1981)Directed by Miloš Forman155 min · PGDrama, History
“The passion, the violence, the birth of America's Gilded Age.”

In New Rochelle at the start of the 1900s, a young black pianist walks into the lives of an upper-class white family, and the household that takes him in has no idea where he will lead it. Miloš Forman moves among them, Evelyn Nesbit (Elizabeth McGovern), Booker T. Washington (Moses Gunn) and Commissioner Rhinelander Waldo (James Cagney) among the many. Infidelity, racial tension and violence sit just under the surface, and the pianist has everything to lose.
