In Takasaki, Japan, Masato (Takumi Saitoh) works the counter of his father's ramen shop, until the old man dies suddenly and leaves behind a son who barely knew him. Among his mother's things is a journal, and Masato carries it to Singapore, her country, to learn who she was and where he comes from. Eric Khoo keeps his camera on the bowls, the steam and the hands that make them.
