A family is found slaughtered at Christmastime, and the killer drank their blood. Anthony Fraser (Michael Biehn), a district attorney who has always opposed the death penalty, decides to seek it against Charlie Reece (Alex McArthur). William Friedkin builds the case file by file, Fraser at his desk with the paperwork, no longer sure the law he believes in will hold.
