“You are who you eat.”

Captain John Boyd (Guy Pearce) is sent to a remote Army outpost in the Sierra Nevadas in the 1840s, an exile that has little to do with courage. A starving stranger, Colqhoun (Robert Carlyle), stumbles in with a story about a wagon train and the colonel who guided it, and Boyd rides out with the regiment to see for himself. Antonia Bird sets the two men in the snow, and each keeps studying the other's hunger.
