Ray & Liz

A set of circumstances none of them chose keeps the Billingham family in a Black Country council flat, outside Birmingham and outside most of what counts as ordinary life. Ray (Justin Salinger) and Liz (Ella Smith) get through the Thatcher years in three episodes, some of them shocking, some oddly funny, all of them seen through their sons. Richard Billingham, a photographer who once pictured these same people in a book, frames each scene with a still, patient eye.
