Reaching for the Moon
“Two iconic women. One passion.”
In 1951 the poet Elizabeth Bishop (Miranda Otto) leaves New York to visit her college friend Mary (Tracy Middendorf) in Rio de Janeiro, and the shy visitor does not leave the way she planned. Mary's partner is Lota de Macedo Soares (Glória Pires), a dashing architect who decides she wants both women near her. Bruno Barreto sets the three against Brazil's coup of 1964, and Elizabeth keeps writing poems while the people around her take what they want.
