Record of a Tenement Gentleman

Tokyo in 1947 is a city of bombed-out streets and crowded tenement rooms, and Tane (Chōko Iida) has little patience for anyone in it. When Tashiro (Chishū Ryū) turns up with a lost, unclaimed boy, she is stuck with him against her will. Yasujirō Ozu, in his first film after the war, lets a sour, stubborn woman and a quiet child settle into each other's company.
