Red Angel

In 1939, Sakura Nishi (Ayako Wakao) is an army nurse sent to the field hospitals of China during the Sino-Japanese war. Her days are spent beside Dr. Okabe (Shinsuke Ashida), assisting at an endless line of amputations, and she gives what comfort she can to the soldiers in the crowded wards. Yasuzō Masumura ends on Sakura and Okabe, a morphine-dependent surgeon she has followed to the front, left standing among the wounded.
