“The future will be decided.”

In 208 A.D., the Han Dynasty is dying, and its Prime Minister Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) talks the emperor into a war on the kingdoms of Xu and East Wu. The two kingdoms, with nowhere else to turn, form an alliance that neither would have chosen, with Zhou Yu (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Zhu Ge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) among its leaders. John Woo makes the film about what armies and allies owe each other when the odds are this bad.
