Red River

After the Civil War, Thomas Dunson (John Wayne) sets out to drive his Texas cattle to Missouri, a long and dangerous trek he won't be talked out of. Beside him rides Matthew Garth (Montgomery Clift), the adopted son Dunson raised and trained, who watches the old man's stubbornness harden day after day. Howard Hawks sets the two against each other with every mile, a father and son who can't stop pulling at what binds them.
