Red Sorghum

A remote sorghum winery stands at the edge of the fields, and its old owner, a leper, has just died. Jiu'er (Gong Li), the wife bought for him, takes the place over with her lover Yu (Jiang Wen), and the two build a small community there with her at its head. Zhang Yimou floods the screen with red, in the grain, the wine and the sun, and lets the landscape carry the story.
