Tova Sullivan (Sally Field) is a widow living alone in a Washington beach town. When a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus (voice: Alfred Molina) appears in the waters near her home, she begins visiting him at the aquarium, drawn into an unlikely friendship. Through her connection to this creature and the people around her, Tova discovers that some losses can be survived, and that small moments of connection remake a life.
