Return to Paradise

“Give up three years of their lives or give up the life of their friend. They have eight days to decide.”

Three friends spend a holiday in Malaysia, and when it ends, Sheriff (Vince Vaughn) and Tony leave for careers in New York while Lewis (Joaquin Phoenix) stays to work with orangutans. Two years later they learn that Lewis sits in prison on a drug charge tied to what they left behind, facing a death sentence. Joseph Ruben puts Sheriff and Tony in New York with Beth (Anne Heche), the question of whether to go back, and the figure of Lewis in his cell.
