Richard III

“Conscience is a word that cowards use.”

Richard, Duke of Gloucester (Laurence Olivier), has just helped his brother take the English throne, and he stays behind in the court to scheme for the crown himself. Olivier directs and stars in this Technicolor Shakespeare, with John Gielgud as the brother Richard moves against, and Ralph Richardson as the Duke of Buckingham. Underneath the pageantry sits an old idea, that a man who deceives everyone around him ends up with nobody left to trust.
