Lassiter (Richard Boone) is a former Confederate soldier who drinks too much and still hates the Union. That makes him an odd fit for Captain Haven (Stuart Whitman), the Army officer who needs him as part of a secret mission into Mexico to stop a stolen cache of rifles from reaching the Apaches. Gordon Douglas sends them off with Rodriguez (Anthony Franciosa), and the three stay wary of one another, each trusting the other two a little less than he needs to.
