Espírito da Luz Soares (Grande Otelo) writes sambas, and he wants someone with a voice to sing them and carry them out of his neighborhood. Around him are Maurício (Jece Valadão), Moacir (Paulo Goulart) and Lourival (Haroldo de Oliveira), and a city that offers little to a man in his position. Nelson Pereira dos Santos puts the samba and the injustice in the same frame, and the music cannot be told apart from the life it comes from.
