“The story of a wanna be who got to be.”

Chris "Izzy" Cole (Mark Wahlberg) fronts a Pennsylvania tribute band, copying his favorite heavy metal group, Steel Dragon, note for note, until his bandmates throw him out of the group he started. Then the real Steel Dragon asks him to take over as their singer, and Stephen Herek follows him out of the small clubs and into the big time. Izzy has spent years imitating this band, and now he has to find out whether he can stand in front of it as himself.
