A fifteen-year-old named Hal Hefner (Reece Thompson), who stutters so badly that ordering lunch is an ordeal, signs up for his high school debate team. Coach Lumbly (Margo Martindale) puts him in rooms full of fast talkers, and Ginny Ryerson (Anna Kendrick) is the star debater he can't stop watching. Jeffrey Blitz's film is about a kid trying to find his own voice, and about how much of that happens out loud, in front of other people.
