“Based on a true fantasy.”

In postwar suburban England, a shy boy named Reginald Dwight, later Elton John (Taron Egerton), wins a place at the Royal Academy of Music on the strength of a gift for the piano. Dexter Fletcher tells his story through the songs, starting with the day Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) hands him a set of lyrics and a partnership begins. What John stands to lose is the boy at the piano, with Sheila (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Ivy (Gemma Jones) still in the room.
